Midweek Service

Many of those who attend the Midweek Service come along to the Coffee Morning afterwards. The Midweek Service is held at 10 a.m. and lasts no more than tweny minutes. The church is open until 11 a.m. for quiet reflection or for visitors to view our splendid stained glass windows. Worship followed by tea or coffee? What could be a better way to start your day?

Fishy Tales

A familiar routine during the Tuesday Coffee Morning is that around 11 a.m., a fish van comes to park outside the Large Hall. Many of those inside take the opportunity of going out to replenish their stock of fish.

Isn't Tuesday at Cardonald Church such a good way to the spend the morning? After encouraging your soul at the Midweek Service, you can warm your insides with coffee, select some fish to take home and go back inside to hear the rest of that tale that was being told.

Coffee Morning

Gathering for Friendship

The Tuesday Coffee Morning was started in 1984 by Miss Helen Kernohan, one of our retired Elders, little realising who much it would grow both in popularity and in financial gain to the Church. In 2004, Miss Kernohan was succeeded by Mrs Eleanor Willbond, who said, "She passed the helm of the Coffee Morning to myself, which I am proud to carry on from such a loyal and, may I say, formidable lady. I am grateful to my committee and helpers, whose dedication, week by week, makes the venture possible." In May 2008, Mrs Willbond's retired as Coffee Morning Coordinator after four years of ensuring that each Tuesday a warm welcome awaited all. She too has set a high standard for her successor.

The new Coffee Morning Coordinator is Mrs Maxine Gilchrist.

Our friends come along each week to enjoy a cup of tea or freshly ground coffee and a biscuit or cake of their choice. On special dates in the calendar, we like to have a little diversion from the norm. On Shrove Tuesday we have pancakes to enjoy and at Easter we partake of hot cross buns. At Christmas we have mincemeat Christmas pies and, at New Year, there is always shortbread to please the palate for the start of another year.

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning

At the end of September, every year, we take part in what is billed as "The World's Biggest Coffee Morning" to help MacMillan Cancer Support. On that day, admission is by donation. Through the generosity of everyone, we always manage to send a substantial amount to this charity.

Although the primary focus of the gathering is on providing a midweek meeting place fostering fellowship and friendship, a pleasing bonus has been that, over the years, the Tuesday Coffee Morning has given £26,000 to the Church.

Come along and join us. You are guaranteed a warm welcome and you will want to come back on a regular basis. Admission is only £1, and that could easily be the best pound you will ever spend.
